. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Pinch-hitter Richie Zisk tripled home Manny Sanguillen, who had bunted for a single and moved to second on a wild pitch in the seventh inning, to give the Pirates a 2-1 victory over the Cubs. The RBI was Zisk's 100th of the season and broke a tie which had stood since the third inning when the Pirates scored a run off Bill Bonham. The Cubs scored their only run off Bruce Kison in the first when the Pirate winner gave up two singles, hit a batter and walked Pete LaCock on four pitches. Kison gave up only one hit after the first frame.

The Pirates got the tying tally two innings later when Frank Taveras was hit by a pitch, then broke for second as Rennie Stennett bounced to third. Stennett was thrown out at first, but Taveras continued to third and came around to score when the return throw from LaCock to third baseman Bill Madlock was wild. The run became earned when Richie Hebner walked and Al Oliver singled. [The Sporting News]
