Richie Hebner singled home pinch-runner Miguel Dilone in the top of the 10th to decide a pitching duel between Jim Rooker and Lynn McGlothen and give the Pirates a 1-0 nod over the Cardinals, whose N. L. East lead over the Bucs shrank to one-half game. Dilone, running for pinch-hitter Paul Popovich, who had opened the 10th with a bloop single to left, was sacrificed to second before Hebner delivered his hit. [The Sporting News]
