After giving up two runs in the first inning, Joe Decker bore down the rest of the way and pitched the Twins to a 5-2 victory over the Royals. A pass to Jim Wohlford, single by Hal McRae and double by Tony Solaita accounted for the Royals' runs.

The Twins tied the count in the third when Bobby Darwin singled with the bases loaded. Four singles for two runs sent the Twins ahead in the sixth and they added their final tally in the eighth on a single by Pat Bourque and triple by Jerry Terrell that scored Eric Soderholm, who ran for Bourque.
