Nolan Ryan became a 20-game winner for the second straight year by pitching the Angels to a 6-2 victory over the White Sox. The fastballing righthander allowed only three hits and struck out seven to increase his season's total to 337.

John Doherty homered for the Angels, but Pat Kelly scored twice for the White Sox to produce a 2-2 tie before the Angels broke away with a run in the third on a pass to Morris Nettles, a single by Denny Doyle and sacrifice fly by Bruce Bochte. Dave Chalk tripled and Doherty singled for another run in the fourth. Joe Lahoud added the final tallies with a bases-loaded single in the fifth. [The Sporting News]
