. . . where the 1970s live forever!
In an explosive outburst, the Phillies smashed two homers in the eighth inning and scored six runs to defeat the Pirates, 6-4. Jerry Reuss, pitching for the Pirates, allowed only three hits before the Phillies began their rally with a pinch-single by Jerry Martin, double by Larry Bowa and three-run homer by Mike Schmidt. When Willie Montanez followed with a double, the Pirates brought in Bruce Kison, who failed in relief. Pinch-hitter Jay Johnstone singled, driving in Montanez to tie the score at 4-4. Del Unser then came up as the Phillies' third pinch-hitter of the inning and smashed a homer for the winning margin.

The Pirates, in building up their 4-0 lead, started with two runs in the third inning on a bases-loaded single by Al Oliver. Ed Kirkpatrick doubled, Frank Taveras singled and Rennie Stennett hit a sacrifice fly for another run in the fourth and their fourth tally counted in the seventh on singles by Willie Stargell, Richie Zisk and Taveras.
