. . . where the 1970s live forever!
Chuck Dobson, who last won in the majors in September of 1971, hurled the Angels to a 4-1 triumph in the first of two against the Rangers, who gained a split with a 5-3 victory in the second contest. California got Dobson, whose last win was in an Athletics' uniform over the Angels, three runs in the third inning, two scoring on Bruce Bochte's single.

The Rangers used a three-run fourth inning in the second game to wipe out a 2-1 California lead, the rally including rookie Roy Howell's first major league homer which tied the score. Joe Lovitto, Duke Sims, Cesar Tovar and Lenny Randle followed with singles. Mike Hargrove doubled home the Rangers' final marker in the seventh. [The Sporting News]
