The Pirates, under pressure to maintain their lead of 1½ games over the Cardinals in the East Division race, scored on a single by Dave Parker in the 12th inning to defeat the Expos, 6-5. The Expos, who suffered their sixth straight defeat, took a 2-0 lead in the first on a walk, triple by Willie Davis and infield out by Bailey. Hal Breeden drove in two more runs with a single in the seventh, but the Pirates erupted to take a 5-4 lead in their half. Manny Sanguillen and Ed Kirkpatrick singled and Richie Zisk walked to load the bases. Paul Popovich batted in two runs with a pinch-single and three more counters followed on singles by Rennie Stennett, Richie Hebner and Al Oliver.

The Expos tied the score in the ninth when Larry Lintz singled, stole second and scored on a pinch-single by Larry Biittner. In the 12th, Hebner singled with one out, Miguel Dilone walked and Parker won the game with his single, scoring Hebner. [The Sporting News]
