An unearned run proved decisive as the White Sox defeated the Indians, 2-1. The White Sox nicked Fritz Peterson for a run in the fourth inning on a double by Ken Henderson and single by Ron Santo. Then in the sixth, after singles by Santo and Jerry Hairston, Indians' second baseman Angel Hermoso fumbled a grounder by Ed Herrmann and followed with a wild throw to the plate to allow Santo to score.

The Indians got their run off Jim Kaat in the ninth on singles by Frank Duffy and Rico Carty around an infield out. The defeat was the third straight in tight games for Peterson, who lost his two previous starts by 1-0 scores to the Twins and Rangers. [The Sporting News]
