After Barry Foote saved the Expos from defeat with a two-out single in the ninth inning, pinch-hitter Hal Breeden singled with the bases loaded in the 13th, also with two out, to defeat the Cardinals, 3-2. The Expos scored a run in the first on two walks and a ground-rule double by Mike Jorgensen. The Cardinals took advantage of an error by Tim Foli to go ahead with two unearned runs in the sixth.

Jorgensen drew a pass in the ninth and, following a sacrifice, scored the tying run on Foote's single. In the 13th, Bob Bailey singled and Jorgensen sacrificed. After an intentional pass to Ron Woods, Ken Singleton struck out, but Foote walked to load the bases and Breeden delivered his winning single. [The Sporting News]
