Passing Larry Hisle intentionally to get at Harmon Killebrew proved a mistake when the Twins' veteran star singled in the 11th inning and drove in a run to beat the Tigers, 3-2. The Twins opened the scoring with an unearned run off Joe Coleman in the fourth. Ed Brinkman homered for the Tigers in the sixth, but the Twins regained the lead in their half on a pass to Rod Carew with the bases loaded. The Tigers knotted the count in the ninth when Jim Northrup doubled and Bill Freehan singled.

In the 11th, Steve Brye singled and moved up on a sacrifice by Carew. Then came the Tigers' decision to pass Hisle in a move that failed when Killebrew rapped his winning single off John Hiller. [The Sporting News]
