Dave Schneck, who had been in an 0-for-16 slump, broke out with two run-scoring singles for his first RBIs since May 21 to pace the Mets to a 3-2 victory over the Giants. In the first inning, Cleon Jones was safe on an error by Tito Fuentes, advanced to second on an infield out and scored on a single by Schneck.

The Mets added their two other runs in the fourth on a pass to John Milner, singles by Jerry Grote and Schneck and double by Ted Martinez. The Giants, who were held to six hits by Jerry Koosman, counted their runs in the sixth on a double by Fuentes, triple by Chris Speier and a wild pitch. [The Sporting News]
