The Cardinals put together four straight hits for two runs in the eighth inning to defeat the Pirates, 8-7. Ted Simmons drove in three runs with a homer and double to help the Cards take a 6-3 lead before the Pirates erupted for four runs in the eighth. Richie Zisk batted in two runs with a bases-loaded single, Gene Clines followed with a single to tie the score and Al Oliver doubled for his fourth RBI of the game to send the Pirates ahead, 7-6.

In the Cards' half, Ken Reitz singled and counted the tying run on a double by Mike Tyson. Ted Sizemore beat out an infield hit and Lou Brock followed with a single to drive in the winning run. [The Sporting News]
