The Rangers piled up 19 hits, their biggest total since the club moved to Dallas-Fort Worth from Washington, and whipped the Angels, 12-3, before completing a sweep of the twi-night doubleheader with a 6-2 victory. In the opening slugfest, Lenny Randle collected five hits, Jeff Burroughs had three, Cesar Tovar smashed a three-run homer and Toby Harrah rapped a pair of solo swats. All this made it easy for Fergie Jenkins to end his personal four-game losing streak.

Steve Hargan, making his first start since May 28, was the winner of the nightcap. The Rangers scored two runs in the fourth inning on a double by Tovar, singles by Dave Nelson and Alex Johnson and sacrifice fly by Burroughs before clinching the game in the fifth when Nelson drove in two runs with a single and Mike Hargrove plated a pair with a pinch-double.
