Ending his personal three-game losing streak, Catfish Hunter allowed only five hits and pitched the Athletics to a 4-0 victory over the Royals. The A's were held in check by Al Fitzmorris until they scored two runs in the sixth inning. Bert Campaneris, back in the lineup after missing seven games with a hand injury, singled, stole second and moved to third on an infield out. After Reggie Jackson walked, Campaneris scored on a grounder by Joe Rudi and Jackson crossed the plate on a single by Deron Johnson.
