Breaking away for five runs in first inning, the Braves entertained a Bat Night crowd of 43,572 by defeating the Cardinals, 7-1. In their getaway, the Braves filled the bases with singles by Ralph Garr and Darrell Evans and walk to Dusty Baker. Hank Aaron singled, driving in two runs. Mike Lum and Davey Johnson followed with singles, each plating a run. Craig Robinson made it 5-0 with a sacrifice fly.

The Braves added their other pair in the third. After Lum doubled and Johnny Oates walked, Robinson singled to score Lum and when Lou Brock fumbled the ball in left field, Oates also crossed the plate. The Cardinals scored their run off Buzz Capra in the eighth and had the bases loaded with one out when Joe Niekro relieved and induced Mike Tyson to ground into a double play. [The Sporting News]
