With two homers leading the way, the Royals scored five runs in the first two innings and defeated the Brewers, 5-4. Amos Otis walked and John Mayberry homered for a pair in the first. Vada Pinson led off with a round-tripper in the second and two other runs followed on a pass to Fran Healy, single by Fred Patek, sacrifice fly by Cookie Rojas and double by Otis.

Paul Splittorff gained his first victory since May 24, but was knocked out in the sixth when the Brewers counted three times on singles by Robin Yount and Don Money and doubles by Johnny Briggs and George Scott. Gene Garber, who relieved, yielded the Brewers' final tally in the seventh on a single by Yount and double by Briggs. [The Sporting News]
