The Padres dealt the Astros a club record 10th straight defeat, 8-6, breaking a 6-6 tie in the seventh on Fred Kendall's RBI double, scoring Dave Winfield, a pinch-runner for Willie McCovey, who had three hits and four RBIs for San Diego. McCovey doubled home Bobby Tolan with the Padres' second run in the third, then wiped out a 4-3 Astro lead an inning later with a three-run two-bagger. Houston tied the score in the sixth on pinch-hitter Cliff Johnson's two-run homer.
