John Mayberry hit a two-run homer off Fergie Jenkins in the eighth inning to carry the Royals to a 4-2 victory over the Rangers. Jenkins, who went into the game with a 6-1 record after winning his last five straight decisions, fell behind in the third inning when the Royals scored on singles by Amos Otis and Hal McRae around a pass to Mayberry. George Brett added a run with a homer in the seventh. The Rangers came back in their half when Mike Hargrove hit a two-run homer off Al Fitzmorris, but Mayberry countered with his winning blow for the Royals. [The Sporting News]
