Reliever Joe Hoerner hit two batters with consecutive pitches, forcing in the run that resulted in the Royals losing to the Yankees, 5-4. Homers by Vada Pinson, Tony Solaita and Cookie Rojas gave the Royals a 4-3 lead before the Yankees loaded the bases in the seventh inning. Chris Chambliss grounded into a forceout at the plate, but Bobby Murcer hit a sacrifice fly to tie the score. Hoerner then hit Ron Blomberg on a 3-2 pitch to reload the bases and plinked Graig Nettles with his next delivery to force in the Yankees' deciding run. [The Sporting News]
