The Phillies rallied for two runs in the ninth inning and defeated the Giants, 6-5, to end a six-game losing streak. Larry Bowa hit the second homer of his major league career, connecting with a man on base in the first, to pace the Phillies to a 4-1 lead before the Giants tied the score in the seventh on a walk, double by Gary Matthews, single by Chris Arnold and double by Garry Maddox.

In the Phillies' ninth, Dave Cash singled, moved up on a sacrifice and scored on a double by Mike Schmidt. Mike Anderson followed with a single, adding what proved to be the winning marker, since the Giants picked up a run in their half of the ninth before the game ended. [The Sporting News]
