The Mets ended their seven-game losing streak by scoring three runs in the eighth inning to defeat the Pirates, 5-2. Jerry Koosman, who allowed only five hits, was wrapped in a 2-2 tie with Bob Moose until the Mets finally broke loose. Bud Harrelson opened the eighth with a single, moved up on a sacrifice and scored the tie-breaking run on a single by Cleon Jones, who took second on the throw to the plate.
