The Indians, who had lost five straight games since the start of the season, gained their first victory when Gaylord Perry pitched a four-hitter and beat the Yankees, 9-1. The Indians erupted for six of their runs in the fourth inning. After Frank Duffy homered with two men on base, three walks loaded the bases and other runs followed on a balk and a single by John Ellis. Buddy Bell added a homer for the Tribe in the eighth.
