Led at bat by Jim Wynn and Ron Cey, the Dodgers defeated the Padres, 9-2, to complete the sweep of the three-game series. Wynn whacked his third homer in three games and also rapped a double and single, giving him seven hits in his first 13 at-bats. Cey hit two doubles and two singles, driving in three runs. Steve Garvey joined in the attack with a two-run homer.

The Padres, who were shut out in the first two games of the series, finally ended their drouth when Willie McCovey singled to drive a run across in the sixth inning. Fred Kendall added a homer off Andy Messersmith in the seventh. [The Sporting News]
