| The Red Sox smashed four homers, two of them by Carlton Fisk, who connected for the second time with a man on base in the ninth inning to defeat the Rangers, 5-4. Tommy Harper homered for the Red Sox in the first inning. Fisk and Dwight Evans followed with drives in the fifth before Danny Cater walked and Fisk hit his game-winning blow in the ninth.
