Taking advantage of an error, the Yankees erupted for five runs in the eighth lasting to defeat the Angels, 7-2. With one away, Bobby Murcer was safe on an error by Sandy Alomar. After Thurman Munson lined out, Graig Nettles cracked a homer to break a 2-2 tie. Jim Ray Hart followed with a triple to kayo Clyde Wright. Nolan Ryan relieved, but the Yankees went on to add three runs on a double by Felipe Alou, single by Gene Michael, a walk and a wild pitch before the side was retired. [The Sporting News]
