Pitching for the first time since August 2, Blue Moon Odom allowed only five hits in 7 1/3 innings before Rollie Fingers took over to finish the Athletics' 3-1 victory over the Red Sox. Odom gave up the Red Sox run in the third on a single by Tommy Harper, a stolen base and double by Luis Aparicio. Doubles by Vic Davalillo and Dick Green and a single by Bert Campaneris sent the A's ahead in the fourth and they added their final run in the seventh when Green was hit by a pitch, Campaneris sacrificed and Bill North singled.
