Jerry Reuss put himself ahead to stay with a run-scoring single in the sixth inning and was the winner with the help of Jim Ray when the Astros defeated the Giants, 6-3. The Astros scored their first three runs in the third. Reuss walked and Jim Wynn singled. After Roger Metzger forced Reuss at third, singles by Cesar Cedeno, Bob Watson and Tommy Helms were good for a run apiece.

Helms singled, Skip Jutze doubled and Reuss singled for what proved to be the deciding run in sixth. Five straight singles added two clinching tallies to the Astros' total in the ninth. [The Sporting News]
