Bobby Bonds homered in first inning and singled and scored on three subsequent trips to the plate to lead the Giants to a 9-7 victory over the Pirates, however, two wild pitches also figured importantly in the Giants' winning margin. With the Pirates leading, 5-4, Bonds singled in the sixth and scored on a double by Tito Fuentes. Garry Maddox was passed intentionally and was forced by Willie McCovey. Ed Goodson singled to score Fuentes with the tying run. McCovey reached third and scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch by Bob Johnson.

The Giants added two tallies to decide the game in the seventh. Chris Speier walked and scored on a single by Bonds and an error by Manny Sanguillen in right field. Bonds reached third and crossed the plate on a wild pitch by Jim McKee. [The Sporting News]
