Although Joe Pepitone, Ron Santo and Billy Williams homered for the Cubs, Johnny Jeter came up with a more dramatic blow when the Padres rallied for four runs in the ninth inning to gain a 6-5 victory. Pepitone and Santo hit their homers in succession in the fourth. After Cito Gaston doubled in two runs to tie the score in the seventh, Williams hit a three-run homer for the Cubs in the ninth.

The Padres started their rally when Dave Roberts and Cito Gaston singled and Derrel Thomas walked to load the bases with one away. Roberts scored on an infield out by Fred Kendall. Jeter then came to the plate and smashed his homer for three runs to give the Padres their victory. [The Sporting News]
