Taking advantage of three errors, the Reds scored six runs in the seventh inning to clinch an 8-1 victory over the Mets. Cesar Geronimo started the stanza with a single and Darrel Chaney was safe on a bunt when Jim McAndrew threw high to first. McAndrew hurt his knee on the play and left the game in favor of Ray Sadecki.

Bill Plummer bunted and all hands were safe on Sadecki's late throw to third. Lute Barnes booted a grounder by Don Gullett, allowing a run to score. Two more counted on a single by Pete Rose. Jim Beauchamp fielded a grounder by Joe Morgan and made a bad throw home as another run scored. A sacrifice fly by Tony Perez and double by Denis Menke added two more tallies before Danny Frisella was able to end the inning. [The Sporting News]
