The Orioles broke a tie with two runs in the ninth inning to defeat the Rangers, 3-1, behind the four-hit pitching of Jim Palmer. Brooks Robinson opened the frame with a single and gave way on the paths to Tom Shopay, who raced to third on a single by Johnny Oates.

When Ranger reliever Horacio Pina uncorked a wild pitch, Shopay scored. Davey Johnson, who had hit a homer earlier in the game, then doubled to score Oates with an extra run. [The Sporting News]
