Wilbur Wood. who helped himself at bat with two singles, gained his seventh victory when the White Sox defeated the Angels. 3-1. Wood singled and scored on a single by Pat Kelly and a sacrifice fly by Mike Andrews in the third inning. The veteran knuckleballer then drove in a run with his second single in the fourth. Syd O'Brien hit a pinch-homer for the Angels' tally in the eighth.

Wood, pitching with only two days of rest for the 10th time this season, was lifted in the ninth after Bob Oliver doubled and the White Sox used both Steve Kealey and Terry Forster to wind up the game. [The Sporting News]
