After giving up three runs on six hits in the first three innings, Mel Stottlemyre yielded only three more safeties the rest of the way and pitched the Yankees to a 6-3 victory over the Senators. The Yankees clinched it for Stottlemyre with four runs in the fifth inning. Felipe Alou drove in two tallies with a bases-loaded single and two more followed on a single by Ron Hansen and infield out by Jake Gibbs. [The Sporting News]
