The Phillies erupted for five runs in the seventh inning to win the opener of a twi-night doubleheader, 5-4, but the batting of Bob Bailey carried the Expos to a 4-3 victory in the nightcap. Oscar Gamble homered to start the Phillies' outburst in the first game. Tim McCarver followed with a single and Willie Montanez walked. After a sacrifice, Greg Luzinski struck out, but Don Money walked to load the bases. Roger Freed doubled to drive in two runs and Billy Champion won his own game with a double to add the last two tallies.
