Fritz Peterson's streak of seven straight victories since June 28 came to an end when the Yankees were held to six hits by Andy Messersmith and lost to the Angels, 3-0. Jim Spencer homered in the second to snap Peterson's string of 19 scoreless innings. Spencer drove in another run with a single in the sixth and Roger Repoz added the final tally with a homer off reliever Roger Hambright in the eighth. [The Sporting News]
