The Braves were held to only three hits by Tom Phoebus but combined two of them with a walk to beat the Padres, 1-0. With one out in the eighth inning, Hal King drew a pass and Marty Perez singled.

Tom Kelley was due to bat next, but Ralph Garr, who had been out of the starting lineup with a stiff neck, stepped in for the Braves' pitcher and singled to drive in George Stone, running for King. Bob Priddy pitched the ninth to complete the shutout. [The Sporting News]
