Completing a sweep of the three-game series, the Expos defeated the Giants, 3-1, to hand the slumping West division leaders their eighth setback in the last nine starts. Nevertheless, the Giants still enjoyed a seven-game bulge over the Dodgers, who were defeated by the Phillies.

The Giants' run off Carl Morton in the first inning was unearned. The Expos took the lead with two runs in the fifth on singles by Ron Hunt and Rusty Staub, a sacrifice fly by Bob Bailey and double by John Bateman. Morton gave himself some more breathing room by plating the last run with a sacrifice fly in the eighth. [The Sporting News]
