A single by Marv Staehle, triple by Hank Aaron and single by Orlando Cepeda produced two runs in the first inning and resulted in the Braves beating the Astros, 2-1. Tom Kelley, pitching for the Braves, had a two-hit shutout going into the ninth when a walk and two singles gave the Astros their run with one out before Cecil Upshaw relieved and retired the last two batters.
