. . . where the 1970s live forever!
Bill Melton set a White Sox club record with his 30th homer of the season, leading to an 8-4 victory in the first game of a doubleheader, but the Royals came back to win the second game, 8-2. After Paul Schaal homered in the seventh inning of the lidlifter to tie the score at 4-4, Melton whacked his round-tripper in the home half and the White Sox clinched the decision with three more runs in the eighth.

Jim York, making his major league debut for the Royals in the nightcap, was the winner with 4 2/3 innings of relief pitching. The Royals broke a 1-1 tie with three runs in the sixth inning, featuring a triple by Schaal with two on base. These games originally were scheduled for Kansas City, but were rained out there and were transferred to Chicago. Paid attendance at Comiskey Park was only 672. [The Sporting News]
