The hardships and triumphs of a courageous immigrant Scandinavian family trying to carve out a life in America during the 1850s is depicted in this new series. Starring are Bonnie Bedelia, Kurt Russell, Donald Moffat and Gwen Arner. In the first show, the Lundstroms suffer a major setback in establishing their farm when lightning destroys their barn and kills their oxen.

With Ed Lauter, Ellen Geer, June Dayton. A crop-destroying tornado forces Solna's only midwife to consider leaving and Anna, believing she's pregnant, faces an emotional challenge.

With Belinda Montgomery, Paul Sorenson, Keith Atkinson. Bo becomes emotionally involved with a new immigrant, a lovely Scandinavian who is en route to Solna for an arranged marriage.

October 19, 1974: The Word Is: Celebration
Season 1, episode 6

With Wendell Wellman, Tenaya Torres, Charles Wagenheim. Marauders steal Anna's precious wedding dress when they attack the Larsen party en route to a distant celebration. (Last show of the series.)
